Privacy policy
Better is a fitness coaching app in private beta, made by Valnor LLC (“we”). This page explains what we collect, why, who handles it for us, and how to delete it. Questions: naka@val-nor.com.
What we collect
- Your account. Your email address. If you sign in with Google, the name and email address Google shares with us. We never receive your Google password.
- What you tell the coach. Your goals, routine, preferences, limits and anything you write or say in chats, plus the plans, workouts, sets, check-ins and notes you save.
- Voice. Voice notes and voice calls are sent to our AI provider to be transcribed or answered. The transcript is saved in your chat; we don't keep the audio on our servers.
- Photos you choose to send. Food, exercise or goal photos you take or pick are sent to our AI provider to produce an estimate, a suggestion or an illustration. We don't keep them on our servers.
- Apple Health and calendars, only if you turn them on. Recent step and workout counts, and the busy times in your calendar (not event titles or locations), sent with coach requests so suggestions fit your day. If you connect Google Calendar, its sign-in stays on your iPhone.
- Feedback you choose to send us.
We don't use advertising identifiers, don't track you across other apps or websites, don't show ads and don't sell your information.
How we use it
Only to run Better: to build and adjust your plan, write the coach's replies, save and sync your information across your devices, keep the beta invite-only, and fix and improve the app based on feedback. Health and fitness information is used to coach you and for nothing else.
Who handles it for us
- Supabase stores your account and the information you save (servers in Canada).
- Render runs the server that prepares coach requests (servers in the United States).
- OpenAI generates the coach's replies, transcribes voice notes, answers voice calls and reads the photos you send. OpenAI's API terms state that it does not use this data to train its models by default.
- Google, only if you sign in with Google or connect Google Calendar.
These providers process information on our behalf and under their own security and privacy commitments.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Account → Delete account, or Delete account on the waiting screen. This deletes your account and everything saved with it from our database and removes the copy on your iPhone. Copies in our providers' backups expire on their normal schedule. You can also email us to delete your account or to get a copy of your information.
You can see and correct what the coach remembers about you in the app's settings at any time.
Security
Information travels encrypted (HTTPS). Each account can reach only its own records, and your sign-in is kept in your iPhone's Keychain. No system is perfectly secure; tell us at once if you believe your account has been misused.
Who Better is for
Better is for adults aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from children; if you believe a child has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date above, and tell people in the beta about significant changes.
